Last week, I talked about all the incredible new friends I’ve met over the last year or so. Like I said, making friends has never been easy for me. I was never the person who had a big group of friends–I always had a few select close friends I could count on.
And I can still count on them.
A lot of people tend to grow apart from their childhood friends. I’m no different–90% of the people I knew in middle school and high school have all but vanished.
But that other 10% are still some of the best people I’ve ever been lucky enough to know.
I talk about Pup, my ex-fiancé and best friend, a lot. And he’s incredible. If it weren’t for him, I’m not entirely sure I’d ever still be here. If I did manage to survive without him, I probably wouldn’t have done much. I’d probably still be drifting aimlessly, unsure what (if anything) I wanted to do with my life. I mean, I’m still drifting, but I am at least pointed in a direction, now.
Pup isn’t the only person who’s stuck around, though.
I have a handful of people who have been there for me for years.
Some of them are people I’ve met in real life, like my surrogate little sister. Most of them live far away now, but they’ve always reached out when I needed. Others are people I met online a decade ago (or more) who have followed me from social network to social network. Maybe we lost each other for a little bit, but we always came back together.
These people get me, they’ve seen my many iterations, and they’re still here.
The loyalty, support, and love is invaluable to me.
I will be forever thankful.
I love you all.
